Reduce Stress

Lavender helps reduce stress. Stress is a killer. It lowers your immune system, causes high blood pressure, stomach problems, allergies, headaches, insomnia, and causes a wide range of psychological and physical problems. If you're in a situation that causes you stress, try to change that situation if you can. Life is to short to be stressed all the time. You deserve a more relaxed life.

I like to curl up with a good book and have lavender going in my diffuser. I really like it mixed with a citrus essential oil. I find this relaxes me, and is a happy scent.

Lavender has been clinically tested and proven to reduce stress. It can be absorbed into the skin or inhaled to help you get the benefits of this wonderful essential oil. I love the smell so I use it all the time.

One of the things that I like to do when I'm stressed is take a nice warm bath with 6 to 10 drops of lavender oil in the water, light some candles, and play some soft music. This is very relaxing. This is like heaven after a stressful day at work.

Sometimes I just put a couple of drops of lavender essential oil on my wrists, feet, hands or pulse points as a perfume. This seems to relax the people around me at work too.

Adding a drop or 2 lavender essential oil to your lotion when you apply it to your feet and hands is nice and calming.

Put a drop of lavender oil in your hair conditioner or put a drop on your hand and rub it into your nice clean hair after your shower or bath to reduce stress.

Put a couple of drops on a tissue and inhale this as needed. Take slow and easy breaths. This is an easy way to reduce stress.

While breathing in lavender essential oil, I like to breathe in while counting to four, (in you mind, not out loud) hold a couple of seconds and breathe out counting to four. While you breathe out visualize the stress leaving your body in the exhaled breath. Breathe slow and deep.

Or breathe in for the count of 4, hold for the count of 6, exhale for the count of 8. This actually will slow the heartbeat, and relaxes you.

Get a massage or back rub with about 5 drops of lavender essential oil mixed with about a 1 teaspoon of carrier oil. You can vary this ratio to the amount of dilution you want. Lavender essential oil can be used neat, but sometimes more is not better.

A lavender eye pillow is another way to relax and reduce stress. This is especially nice when you want to lay on your back and meditate. It just helps you get into that deeper meditation state. Or try to tense and relax each set of muscles. Take some deep breaths and visualize the stress leaving your body.

Visualize you're someplace you love to be. Is it at the beach, on a boat, or in a beautiful field of flowers? Just pick a place that is relaxing to you. Try to imagine what you would smell at this place. Imagine the sounds you would hear. Is there birds or wind? How would it feel to you? Would you feel the warmth of the sun on your skin? A breeze gently blowing on you? When I do this I'm in a field of flowers, and you guessed it, I have lavender oil scent going in my diffuser.

Here is a example of a visualization that I like, it helps me relax and reduce stress. Make time for yourself. Go somewhere where you can have a little time and won't be disturbed. Before you start make sure you're comfortable in a chair, recliner, or lay back on a bed. I like to lay on the bed and use my lavender eye pillow and have lavender essential oil going in my diffuser.

Visualization

Imagine going through a gate. What does the gate look like? Is it a old ornate iron gate with curling metal that feels cool to the touch or wood? Step through and close the gate behind you.

There's a bench just inside of the gate. Sit down on the bench and take off your shoes. You don't need to wear shoes here in this sacred place. Wiggle your toes and feel the wonderful grass and moss under your feet that is even softer than the finest carpet in the world.

As you look around you see beautiful mountains to your left and a old forest to your right in the distance. The sun is shining and there's a soft warm breeze gently touching your skin.

Start walking down the moss path in front of you. It turns and twists. Flowers are growing on each side of the path in beautiful hues. Bumblebees are humming and buzzing on the flowers. There are fruit trees and flowering bushes near the path with their leaves rustling in the breeze

Birds are singing sweetly. Put out your hand and a humming bird lands on it. Look at the beautiful colors of the feathers as the sun shines on it. The bird watches you, then after a few minutes it flies away.

There is a huge deer in the field of flowers. It looks up and then resumes eating. There's no danger here, no fear, everything is safe from harm of any kind. A small fox is in the field near a rabbit. All is peaceful in the field.

Take a deep breath and inhale the rich healing fragrance of flowers. You feel calmer with every breath you take in. Feel the stress leaving with every exhaled breath.

You notice a strawberry plant next to the path with huge ripe red strawberries on it. Reach down and pick a strawberry. Smell the wonderful scent of the strawberry. Take a bite of the sweet and juicy berry. The purity of it has a calming and healing effect. You feel stronger, healthier and younger as it nourishes your body.

You here the babbling of water and follow the sound. Continue down the path and go around a clump of trees. There is a river, with sparkling clear water. Notice precious stones in the water. Bend over and pick up a polished gem the size of your fist. It's beauty is breathtaking. Return the precious stone to the river and turn to sit against a tree that overhangs the river. A school of fish swim by. Watch as they circle near you and continue down the stream.

A soft golden light shines down on you through the tree leaves. Feel a strong sense of peace, love and calmness fill your body. Breath in the golden light and release any frustration or negative feelings you may have. Lean back against the tree feeling it's healing energy. Stay in that place as long as you need to. When you are ready, return to the gate, put your shoes back on and return to your world, relaxed and calm.

This is just a sample. I change the visualization any time I want or need to. You can do the same or change it as much as feels right to you. Have fun with it. It really does help reduce stress.

Here are a few other essential oils that mix well with lavender for helping reduce stress and get it under control- sweet orange, bergamot, nutmeg, pink grapefruit, peppermint, rosemary, roman chamomile. Mix the scents that appeals to you. Place in a diffuser or inhale from a tissue.

Or mix the essential oils with a carrier oil and use on the skin. Example mix 4 drops of lavender with 4 drops of bergamot and 3 drops of grapefruit with at least a tablespoon of carrier oil if you're going to add this to your skin. Citrus oils are up lifting.

Warning- Check safety on all essential oils before you use them.
